Che fai, misero Core?
Ecco ch'in Croce spiega
Il tuo Dio le sanguinose braccia,
E l'empio lusingie,r che se ti nuoce
Misero ancor t'invesca, ancor t'allaccia?
Senti l'ira del Ciel, che pen'atroce
al tuo fallir gravissimo minaccia,
Che fai lasso? Che fai vanne veloce
piang'il tuo fallo,
e'l sacro tronco abbraccia.
Queste lacere tempie e questo crine,
Queste guance che vedi esangui, e morte
Sol di renderti salvo hanno per fine.
Prendi vita mortal da questa morte,
che quante piaghe sono e quante spine
della salute tua son tante porte.

Here on the cross
your God spreads bloody arms,
and the evil enticement that so harms you,
miserable wretch, still ensnares you, still entangles you.
Feel the wrath of Heaven
that gravely threatens for your sins;
What are you doing, alas, what are you doing?
Go quickly, weep for your sins,
and embrace the sacred trunk.
These lacerated temples and these locks,
these cheeks that you see bloody and pale,
have saving you as their only purpose.
Take immortal life from this death,
for as many as there are wounds and thorns,
these are doors to your salvation.
