Deh, chi già mai potrà, Vergine bella

Originally for Soprano and basso continuo.
Original Language: Italian
Ottava romanesca

Deh chi già mai potrà Vergine bella
Cantar tua lode a tua grandezza eguale.
Se Regina del Ciel sposa novella
In te discende, e fass'Iddio mortale
Deh solo il pianto sia la mia favella
Il silenzio la tromb'alta immortale.
Così puote umil Cor lodare a pieno
Chi congiunge la terr'al Ciel sereno.

English

Ottave romanesca

Ah, who could ever, beautiful Virgin,
sing praises equal to your greatness?
You're the queen of heaven, the new bride,
in you God descends and becomes mortal.
Ah, let only my weeping speak for me,
and silence be the eloquent immortal trumpet.
Thus can a humble heart fully praise
she who joins earth with bright heaven.
