Io mi distruggo, et ardo
Original Language: Italian
Io mi distruggo, ed ardo
Né trovo al mio dolor conforto, e pace,
Ch’un sol pietoso sguardo
Temprar non può d’Amore l’ardente face,
Né sfogar posso in pianto in dolor mio,
Come viver poss’io?
Occhi, deh per pietà, mentre splendete
E dolci saettendo il cor’ m’ardete
Toglietemi la vita
Ch’io vò morir se non mi date aita.
English
I'm consumed and I burn
I'm consumed and burn,
and find no help or peace in my suffering,
not a single merciful look
to sooth the burning torch of love,
nor can I express my suffering in tears,
so how can I live?
Eyes, I beg you, as you shine, sweetly
shooting arrows that enflame my heart,
take my life,
for I want to die if you don't give me relief.
