I've already been scorned and mocked
by a beautiful treacherous woman,
and don't want my heart
to be shattered again by love.
I no longer want to feed on
bitterness for the sweetness
of imagined gain,
living in constant pain,
nor to be bound and chained
for a new charming beauty,
nor to burden my soul
with new misery.
If you want me to adore you
with the love of a gentle star,
to sing to you, and honor you
with my honest lyre.
My fervid hopes call me
to more worthwhile treasures,
to a not unworthy prize,
for having been disdained I'm fearful.
I no longer want to suffer
the cruel torment
of a heart cloaked with pride,
